How do I delete my discussion in FamilySearch Community?
Hello, friends.
I created a discussion in one of the FamilySearch Community groups, which I would now like to delete. How may I do this? Thank you.

Do you see the little cog or gear at the upper right corner of your question above? You can click on it to Edit your comment but you cannot delete it.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. Wow, that is bizarre. I've never been on another discussion board or forum which does not allow the author of a post to delete their own writing. I wish I had noticed this before I got involved. It should be highlighted info on the first page, imo. Anyway, lesson learned. I will simply edit the post down to say "nevermind". Cheers!

I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...
Really, generally speaking, there are NO insignificant or unnecessary 'Questions', in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
Most of us, NEED help/assistance, at some time or other.
As such ...
Question:
WHY would one "Delete" one's WHOLE post; or, even, "Edit" one's ORIGINAL post to 'Nevermind' (or, the like)?
The reason that I ask is, that OTHER Users/Patrons, MAY have the same 'Question'; but, reluctant to ask.
Or, alternatively, find a 'Question', that is ALREADY posted, that addresses (ie. 'Answers') their 'Question'.
Whereas ...
"Deleting" one's 'Comment'/'Answer' to/in a post, is another matter entirely; and, in many instances, it is quite appropriate to "Delete" (ie. "Remove") one's 'Comment'/'Answer', that one has made to/in a post - it does happen.
Worst of all, when one "Deletes" one's WHOLE post, it also "Deletes" the 'Comments'/'Answers', by OTHER Users/Patrons, that may contain VERY useful and important information.
Plus, not to mention, the time and effort, by the Other Users/Patrons, in responding, in the first place.
Just my thoughts.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. You raise some good questions.
In my view, there are LOADS of valid reasons why a person would wish to retract a remark or query from a public discussion, especially one which is potentially searchable by all of humankind forever.
Just a few possibilities include: realising that a question has already been addressed, feeling uncomfortable about the responses or attention they are receiving, having second thoughts about how their comment is impacting or influencing others, discovering they have misunderstood a poster's question or that they have shared incorrect info, etc. Sometimes deleting is just the most simple, helpful, wise, appropriate, responsible, or desired course of action.
In my case, I asked a question regarding a personal matter which was specific to vicarious temple ordinances, then changed my mind about wanting that in the public eye.
Regardless of how relevant, entertaining, useful, etc a question or comment may seem to others, I believe it should always be a poster's prerogative to delete their own remarks. When a forum does not allow a poster that option, I believe that aspect of the platform should be stated very obviously and clearly up front, so people can make an informed choice about whether to participate under those conditions.

I totally understand, the point about "Temple" Work matters, being "Public".
(ie. Especially, that Users/Patrons, who are NOT member of the Church, can 'see'/'access' such ...)
That, has been a 'pet peeve' of mine, for a number of years.
There SHOULD have ALWAYS been a way, of making both, posts; and, 'Groups', pertaining to "Temple" Work; as, "Private"; and/or, ONLY viewable by/accessible to Users/Patrons, who were Members of the Church.
Something I have been actively promoting for a long time.
And, believe me, many of the Users/Patrons, who are NOT member of the Church, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch', do not want to either, 'see' it; and/or, 'know' about it - matters pertaining to "Temple" Work.
Hopefully, you do not have to worry too much, soon ...
The "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, is being subjected to, another significant "Change", come the 1st November 2021.
I believe that there will be places in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, where posts of a sensitive nature (such as those pertaining to "Temple' Work) may ONLY be 'seen' by 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel); and, not the general populous, as is the case now; and, ONLY made "Public", if such is acceptable - if at all.
Of course, there are 'pros' and 'cons', on both sides - there always is.
Just something to think about.
