I would like to merge CARROLL H HORNER (MZ2K-1V2) with CHARLES H HORNER (GMQW-6N7).
I would like to merge CARROLL H HORNER (MZ2K-1V2) with CHARLES H HORNER (GMQW-6N7). I have uploaded a photograph of the Application to Register Birth or Correct Birth Record to change recorded name from Carroll H Horner to Charles H Horner. However I cannot get the system to allow me to complete the merge as some documents are attached to two people in the family - both Carroll and Charles. How can I correct this?
I see no problem merging the 2 profiles. Just use the merge by ID on the right hand side and then follow the process. It is OK if documents are attached they will remain in the profile that remains. Then you should also look at ID 99R8-VFH because that appears to also be the same Charles Horner with his wife and children. Review the sources and the birth location is listed wrong in the vital section because sources list birth in Ohio.
Sometimes a merge fails when the same source is attached to both IDs. This article describes some possible steps to help you merge the records.1
@Miss Jessie , related question, RE "sometimes a merge fails when the same source is attached to both IDs" If I attach a source to a Living PID and another person attaches the same source to their copy of that same Living person, then at some point both copies of the person are marked as deceased. Will there be a problem with the subsequent merge?0
@Miss Jessie, Thank you for your help. I'm still unable to merge them. I think the main problem is that it seems the last time Charles was referred to as Carroll was on the birth record. Even on the 1880 census when he was 1 yr old he's listed as Charles. So there's no website, aside from that leading to this first birth record, for Carroll. Are there any instances where a person should be deleted? Should I simply remove Carroll from my tree and use Charles, noting that his original record was Carroll?
I'm not yet sure if Charles H Horner 99R8-VFH is also a duplicate or not so I'm not ready to merge him yet.0
