Standardized Event Place database for México needs fixing

When I''m adding an automatically indexed source to a person, the automatic indexing for México has correctly put diacritics in the right places, but the Standardized Event Place database has loaded up all of México without diacritics.

This adds and extra step in the source attachment process, as well as making all the places incorrect.

It also leads to errors such as people in the town of Magadalena, Jalisco, México being assigned to Magdalena, Veracruz, Mexico because that's the first place that come up in the list when you type "Magdalena" due to indexed places with diacritics being not recognized by the standardized database.

So it would be nice if you could search and replace for Mexico with México in the databse and also restore all the other diacritics in the location and state names. Probably also a problem for other Spanish speaking countries?

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' Users/Patron ...

IF, you have the 'Time' (and, a good knowledge of "Mexico"); THEN, there is always the opportunity to offer your services, to the "Authorities Team", of the "Standards Team", in 'FamilySearch', to HELP address/fix (ie. work on) the 'Place Names' for "Mexico", in the "Research/Places" Database in 'FamilySearch'.

    Furthermore ...

    As an aside ...

    For future reference ...

Even if you are unable to help/assist at that level, there are some other options that are are available to help/assist the "Place Names" in 'FamilySearch':

    [ 1 ]

    Submit "Requests" for both,

    (1) the Addition of, NEW "Place Names"; and/or,

    (2) Amendment of/Correct to, EXISTING.

'Places', in the "Place Names" Database, in 'FamilySearch', though the

    "Place Names" Database, in 'FamilySearch':

    OR ...

There is a specific 'Group', in the "Groups" Section of this Forum; where, "Requests" for both, (1) the addition of, NEW "Place Names"; and/or, (2) the amendment of/correct to, EXISTING "Place Names". in the "Place Names" Database in 'FamilySearch', can be submitted.

That 'Group' is monitored by the "Authorities Team", of the "Standards Team", of "Research Places", of the "Place Names" Database, in 'FamilySearch".

Please be aware that you will need to "Join" a 'Group', to post in a 'Group'.

    That specific 'Group' being:

Thanks for the suggestions Brett, but that's an awful lot of work!

Since it's a database of placenames that have had the diacritics stripped away, and the database with the automatic indexing of documents still has the diacritics in the correct place, there's bound to be a programmatic way of going through the placenames database and putting the diacritics back where they belong - 1 hour of script writing compared to days and days of manually clicking away with a mouse!

    I know ...

The "Place Names" Database, in 'FamilySearch', is in itself, ... a lot of work ...

    And, more importantly ...

The "Place Names" Database, in 'FamilySearch', is ... a "Forever" ONGING 'Work in Progress' ...

That NEEDS a lot of CONSTANT updating ...

And, they could do with some HELP ...

Especially, from those, with some reasonable "Knowledge", of particular Countries/Unions/Regions ...

    Just saying ...

    The Choice is yours ...

    That is all ...

    Just a thought ...
