handling Jr or Sr

This might not be how everyone does it but this is how i do it. If the name is listed:
John Max Smith Jr.
I index the Jr with the surname.
if the name is listed:
Smith, John Max Jr.
then i index the Jr with the given names. I hope this helps you!

Please do not index the jr or sr unless there is a field for a suffix. It is incorrect to put it in any field besides the suffix field unless the project specifically asked that it be done. In the field help for given names you will often find this instruction: "Do not include titles, terms, or suffixes with the name. Index prefixes in the Prefix field."
Thanks for asking!

@Colin Keleko Pumau'u Yamamoto_1 It depends on the project instructions. If you read the field help it will let you know whether to index the terms Jr. or Sr. with the name. Most military muster rolls do not want the terms Jr. or Sr. indexed with the names. I've seen marriage records allow those terms indexed. Hope this helps.

I have never seen Jr or Sr being indexed unless there is a suffix field to index them into.
The nice thing is the researcher can see the record and will see the suffix.
In the Field help for Given names in the projects you are working on we read: "Do not include titles, terms, or suffixes with the name. Index prefixes in the Prefix field."
