Unauthorized attachment of record to living person leaves me exposed to unknonw evils.

The Family Search program was originall designed to separate the profiles of the living and the dead to protect privacy and prevent abuse. I have recently received a note of a change to people I am watching that somebody accessed my deceased mother's maiden name. The, Family Search generated a research hint tht enabled her to attach my birth record. This glitch needs to be corrected as the potential for evil is enormous, given what is happening with other apps on the web. I am now exposed. The algorithm needs to be written so as to check that all parties are deceased before giving the researhc hint.

The spell checker no longer works so, I spelled a word wrong and cannot see how to correct it!

The records that can be attached are in the public domain. Anyone can find those records. Have you ever tried googling yourself, so much information is already out there. There are many records for living people on all sorts of sites like Familysearch and Ancestry, etc. There is nothing wrong with using the information that is made available, and yes my Texas birth record is one of those out there and is attached to my deceased father.

    @Cindy Hecker

    Cindy

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    You are correct ...

    But ...

    That Said ...

The post ('Eleanor') is well within her rights ...

    FYI

A "Living" User/Patron, is well within their rights, to "Request", that a "Record" in 'FamilySearch', that lists them [ie. that "Living" User/Patron (or, a "Living" person for whom they act as legal guardian)], to be made INACCESSIBLE, in 'FamilySearch'.

Here is a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

Can I request to remove the name of a living person from Historical Records?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/can-i-request-to-remove-the-name-of-a-living-person-from-historical-records

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/can-i-request-to-remove-the-name-of-a-living-person-from-historical-records

    Where it states:

    Quote

    ----------

FamilySearch respects the privacy rights of individuals and strives to adhere to all applicable laws. FamilySearch publishes copies of records only after gaining permission from the original record custodian (generally a government agency) and faithfully abiding by the stipulated conditions.

You can request that FamilySearch make a record about yourself or a person for whom you act as legal guardian inaccessible.

    Steps

    1. On FamilySearch.org, find the record of the living person.
    2. Copy the URL. We use the URL to distinguish between your data and similar data within FamilySearch’s sizeable database.
    3. Contact FamilySearch.

    Be prepared to provide details:

    • How you are related to the person.
    • The URL of the record page on FamilySearch.org

    ----------

    Now ...

    That Said ...

Unfortunately, doing so, DOES NOT either, "Remove"; and/or, make such, inaccessible, in the REST of the "Public Domain", only in 'FamilySearch'.

    I hope this helps.

    Administration

    Community.FamilySearch Forum

    [ Attention: @Mark McLemore ];

    OR, Moderators

    FYI

    Suggestion ...

In deference to the aforementioned "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':

Can I request to remove the name of a living person from Historical Records?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/can-i-request-to-remove-the-name-of-a-living-person-from-historical-records

Can I humbly suggest, that this particular post, that has been submitted; as, an "Idea" (ie. 'Feedback'), under the 'Topic' of "Other", in the "Ideas" Section, of this Community.FamilySearch Forum, should most probably be "Moved", to the "Q and A" Section, under an appropriate 'Category' (eg. "Other"; or, "Search").

The reason that I suggest such a "Move"; being, so that, the matter can then be initially handled by the "Moderators" [ ie. 'FamilySearch' "Support" (Personnel) ]; and, subsequently, forwarded onto, the 'Department' in 'FamilySearch', that actions matters, pertaining to requests such as this.

    'Thank You' in advance.

Submitted for your immediate, information; attention; and, consideration.

    Kind Regards.

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU IN THIS IMPORTANT WORK

    Yours Faithfully,

    Brett
