I'm reviewing this batch and have several questions on image two. Several of the deceased show their given name but also in () show Mrs and a given name. Since we are to use the most complete version of the name I think I should ignore the spouse's given, correct? Also one name indicates that she is the grandchild of a person who' name is given. I think that the grandparent should be shown as category other. Do you agree?

Thanks

Yes, index the grandparent in an "Other" Entry. But here from the Instructions is the guidance for the other question, with husband as an "Other" Entry

If a person's name included the name of the spouse or was indicated together with the name of the spouse, index both names as separate records. For example, if the obituary lists "Mrs. Ben (Mary) Wilson" as a surviving daughter, you would index a record for Mrs Mary Wilson and then one for Ben Wilson. If the obituary instead gave the name as "Mrs. Ben Wilson," you would index only a record for Mrs Ben Wilson, with the sex indexed as Female because of the prefix

In the case of the following for example:

    Indexing Example.JPG

You would Index a Deceased Entry as Prefix: Mrs , GN: Elaine Schaefer (we don't know that Schaefer is her Maiden Name), SN: Gordenier Sex: Female and fill in the Death Date appropriately.

You would also create an "Other" Entry for Wm, Prefix: <Blank>, GN: Wm, SN: Gordenier., Sex: Male, Relationship: Husband.

In the Project Instructions in What to Remember about This Project, it says

    • Index the name of the deceased first, by selecting the "Deceased" entry type. Then index all of the other names that were mentioned in the obituary or death notice, each as a separate entry, in the order that they appear in the document by selecting "Other" as the entry type.

For the husband, create a separate entry for him. For the grandparent, you are correct, create a separate entry for him as well. Select Other in both cases.

On the names that are written as Mrs. (Husbands first name) (last name), you should show the first name as "Blank", since it is the husbands first name not the wife name, you should show the Mrs. in the "Prefix".

On the Granddaughter, you are correct to show the grandfather in the other category.

We would not show the wife's given name as Blank when the husband's name is written, like Mrs. Ben Wilson, that would be indexed as:

    Prefix: Mrs

    Given Name: Ben

    Surname: Wilson

This is the case on all indexing, not just obituaries.

In your review batch, for Image 2, after entries 7 there should be an "other" record added for William Gordinier and after entry 8 one for John Schultz.
