on image no. 1 it appears this is a name change record. Should I index image no. 1 or mark it no, no extractable data?

Thank you for your question Arlene, and for being willing to index these precious records.

We have had this question regarding these cards. Both of these cards are Naturalization cards, and while sometimes they show a change of name on them, they are not Name Change Records as mentioned in What to Index, bullet point 3.

As these are Naturalization cards containing extra information, they need to be indexed per the Project Instructions, What to Index, bullet point 2, which says:

• Index the following 5 types of naturalization documents: certificates of naturalization, declarations of intention, petitions for naturalization, oaths of allegiance, and naturalization cards. If a document does not have a title or heading, look at other information on the document to determine the document type.

For the names; on the Given Names you would index these as Danyell Elaine Or Wong Mee; the Surname would be Hamilton Or Jung.

I'm getting super discouraged! All that will come up for me in a batch of the Missouri naturalization records is just 2 images, but I can't submit the batch because if seems to think that there are several images to index.

@BonnieSimoneHamilton Hi Bonnie! The Missouri Nats are pre-set to 2 entry forms per image. There is only 1 entry per image to index. What you need to do is delete the unused entries to get the batch to submit. Click on the trash can, select "all blank entries", click delete. Now you will have the records that you indexed and be able to submit the batch.

Thanks for the answer, I was just coming here to ask the same question. I wish they had included an image of different types of Naturalization Cards in the project instructions--there is only one and it is not similar to the batch I opened. It can get quite confusing when they don't include each type of image in the project instructions.

I am so glad you are indexing these amazing records, Angela. It can be frustrating when a batch does not have an example just like the image we are indexing. However, in some projects, it is not possible to create an example for every type of image.

Please post any questions you have here in the Indexing Community; there are a lot of good indexers here who are more than willing to help you. If you include the batch number (the seven digit number in brackets [] to the right of the project title), others can look at the batch you are working on. This makes it much easier to answer any questions you have.

I'm new to indexing these cards. So which No. is used for the record number for this naturalization card - the big bold red number, or the Petition No.

@Kathy Nevin Hi Kathy, your screen shot isn't showing up. It is always best to share the batch code which is the sequence of letters/numbers in brackets after the project title at the top of the screen.

The batch code is the series of Numbers and Letter that are in parentheses . The easiest way to share a batch is, when you are in the batch go to top of screen and click on "Help". When it opens one of the choices is "Share a Batch". When you click on it, it will open and give you 2 choices, you can click on either option you want to pick.
