How do I change back information that a stranger mistakenly changed on a family member of mine?

My father-in-laws information was mixed up with another person with the same name (Very common name), born the same year and died the same year? They changed his middle name, birthdate and birthplace. I've checked the source that was provided, and it is not the same person. (Census report shows a different mother, father, and state where living.)

I know I could just go in and change the information to be the correct information for my family member, but all of the other person's temple work has been completed and I am not sure how it will affect that.

Thank you,

Lisa Kennedy

Family Tree tracks all changes to an ancestor's information, including information about relationships. If you disagree with a change, you can review it and make any corrections you think are necessary.

    Steps (website)

    1. While signed in to FamilySearch, navigate to the Person page of the individual you want to see.
    2. If you do not see Vitals near the top of the page, click the Details tab.
    3. To undo changes made about the person, follow these steps:
      1. Find the Latest Changes box
      2. Click Show All.
    4. To undo changes made to a couple relationship that the person is in, follow these steps:
      1. Scroll down to the Family Members section.
      2. Find the couple, and click their Edit icon .
      3. Click See All Changes.
    5. To undo changes made to a parent-child relationship that the person is in, follow these steps.
      1. Scroll down to the Family Members section.
      2. Find the child, and click the Edit icon for the parent-child relationship.
      3. Click See All Changes.
    6. To contact the FamilySearch user who made the change, click his or her contact name. You can then use the FamilySearch messaging system to communicate.
    7. If the word Reference appears on the far right, more details are available:
      1. Click Reference.
      2. Review the available list to see whether the Restore option is available.
    8. Find the change you want to undo. If the word Restore appears on the far right, you can easily undo it.
      1. Click Restore.
      2. On the popup, review the information that will be restored.
      3. Click Restore.

    Steps (mobile app)

    1. On the individual's profile page, tap the three dots in the top right corner.
    2. Tap Recent changes.
    3. If it is available, you can tap Restore to revert back to the original information.

    Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite currently does not provide an option for viewing changes. Visit the full website to restore information.
