How can I help a father reserve (and update) his son's ordinances?

A father, who I am helping, would like to reserve and do the endowment for his son.

The son died over a year ago. Both parents are living.

The son was baptized and confirmed while living, yet FamilySearch does not show that. Shouldn't those ordinances already be recorded in FamilySearch as complete?

Must that information be updated manually in FamilySearch? If so, where can the parents obtain the original baptism and confirmation information?

If the son was ex-communicated, where would that information be obtained?

After some updating, the father was able to see half his sons family tree (on the deceased grandmother's side), but not the other half (on the living grandfather's side).

Is that normal and expected, or should the father be able to see both halves of his son's tree?

Basically it seems like you will need to make sure the son's information is entered into the Tree accurately - death/burial information should be completed. If his information is not listing him as deceased then that could be why his living ordinance information is not showing. It might take several weeks for that to update OR his local Ward membership clerk could update his records and then those should reflect in the Tree.

Here is a document to help you through those steps:

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/when-a-church-member-dies-does-the-church-membership-system-update-family-tree

Then you should be able to request his ordinances on the Ordinances tab when viewing his 'person page' - or in the Tree you can click his name and select Temple.

Since the parents are requesting his ordinances, the request should be valid unless there is something I am unaware of in this circumstance.

It is normal for living relations not to appear in the Tree, you will need to enter a 'placeholder' to connect that/those living relations to their deceased ancestors before the other half of his tree will be visible. Here is a document that helps you add the living grandfather into the tree. I would recommend that one of the parents be logged into the tree when adding this living parent - we want the relative to add them into the tree.

I hope this helps sort through the questions you have.

His birth and death info is correct in FamilySearch.

He was baptized and confirmed while alive, but his baptism and confirmation are shown in green with permission required (as if they didn't happen).

How can his parents (both living) obtain his membership information (including his baptism and confirmation info) so that they can enter his baptism and confirmation in FamilySearch?
