This is the Family Search pedigree chart.

The spokes of the wheel, ie. the lines between grampas and grammas, are almost invisible on my screen. The text is busy, it's hard to separate the various names and dates. I can do it, with some study, but is it neccesary to make the lines a lovely fainting lady lightness? Here's what I would do:

Low-contrast colors have been discussed before:

Woody, I use the Fan Chart set to Research Helps, and I have no trouble parsing the result:

(They're nearly all unindexed Lutherans, so there are almost never any hints on offer, i.e. my fan chart is almost always essentially grayscale, except for the purple bits where I don't have any dates in the Vitals boxes.)

I tried replacing the gray with black, and I'm not sure I care for the result:

The black seems too thick; it distracts quite a bit from the contents. But it may be an avenue to pursue: maybe an option of "high-contrast" or some such, for the fan chart and any other chart type where it seems appropriate.
