Extraction Program Records Due to Reappear in Family Tree

The following Family Tree records of couples with only names and no other information all have the format of extraction program records for births for which the children were hidden when the 92-year rule was changed to the 110-year rule. This was sufficiently long ago that the four children hidden under these couple are almost certain to be well over 110 years old by now.

Please review these couples and make the children visible in Family Tree so that they can be properly merged if they are duplicates for the family I am currently working on and so the completed temple work for the children will not be unnecessarily repeated.

These are the ID numbers for the fathers:

27T4-NBF

L4KF-LFF

LWBN-2YV

27RF-BLZ

Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you, This does confirm that these are all the same parents and are all in the family I am currently working on.

Can you please add the following death information to these records so that the records will appear in Family Tree and make whatever other adjustments may be needed so they will appear in Family Tree? I will then take care of all the needed merges.

    1) Inga Kristoffersen Esperø 27T4-NBX

    • Birth 28 April 1915
    • Christening: 27 Jun 1915 Finnås, Hordaland, Norway
    • Death: 19 March 1993, Lillehammar, Norway

    2) Elna (male) L4KF-LFX (His name is actually Einar)

    • Christening 3 Jun 1906 Moster, Hordaland, Norway
    • Death: 14 April, 1888, Stavanger, Norway

    3/4) Anna Dordi (Female) LWBN-2YJ

    • Christening 18 Feb 1912 Finnås, Hordaland, Norway
    • Death: 22 April 2001, Bømlo, Hordaland, Norway

I was expecting one of these to be:

Nils Trygve (may be listed with no surname or as Berntsen or Esperø)

    • Born: 3 September 1908 Finnås, Hordaland Norway (birth place may be given in the record as one of the sub-parishes, that is, either Bremnes, Bømlo, or Moster).
    • Christened: 18 October 1908, Bremnes, Finnås, Hordaland, Norway
    • Death: 3 May 1999, Bømlo, Hordaland, Norway

If you happen to see him under another set of the same parents, can you also add his death information?

    Thank your for the help.

    @Gordon Collett

You wish to have some death dates added to the individuals you are working with. We do not add information to our guests Family Tree, we give them directions so they can add it themselves. The ID numbers may not be the same. See the directions below:

    Steps (website)

    1. Sign in to FamilySearch and click Family Tree.
    2. Navigate to the Person page of one of the parents.
    3. If you do not see Vitals near the top of the page, click Details.
    4. Scroll down to the Family Members section.
    5. Under Spouses and Children, click Add Child. (If Add Child does not show, click the down arrow beside Children under the couple box.)
      • If one of the parents of the child is unknown, click Add Child with an Unknown Mother or Father. Add details in a note or in the individual's Life Sketch.
    6. Enter information about the child, and click Next. (If you know the ID of the child, click By ID Number.)
    7. Review the search results. If you find the right child, click Add Person.
    8. If you do not see the person in the search results, click Create New.

    Steps (mobile app)

    1. In the Family Tree mobile app, navigate to the Person page of one of the parents.
    2. Tap the Spouses tab.
    3. If you see more than one spouse, tap the down arrow next to the name of the appropriate spouse.
      • Currently, the mobile app has no option to add a child for a parent without a spouse. Visit the website for this option.
    4. Tap Add Child.
    5. Enter information about the child, and tap Continue. (If you know the ID of the child, tap Add by ID or Find by ID.)
    6. Indicate whether the individual is living or deceased, then tap Continue.
    7. Review the search results. If you find the right child, tap Add Match.
    8. If you do not see the person in the search results, tap No Match.
    9. Review your entry, and tap Add or Add This Person.

The above information was taken from the following Help Center article link, which contains some additional information.

We also looked at the record for Bernt Kristoffersen Espero, 27T4-NBF, and noted several Possible Duplicates for him. Merging may be helpful.

Wishing you success in adding the children to  Bernt Kristoffersen Esperø and Petra Andersdotter.

    Dear @Sanra,

Thank you for your reply. Please allow me to do a bit of teaching to explain exactly this situation so that you will understand it when other users need help with this particular situation or if you run across it in your own work in Family Tree. I will strive for complete clarity so that anyone that reads this will understand. You probably know most of this so please forgive me as I am going to sound very pedantic!

Starting in the 1970's the Church began the extraction program of vital records. Some of the resulting indexes were submitted for temple work and ended up in the IGI. Some of these were also put in the Vital Records Indexes. Records that did not have temple work done by the end of this extraction program and the launch of the new indexing program were all placed into the Vital Records Index.

Both the IGI and the VRI were used as part of the initial construction of Family Tree. The standards regarding privacy of records based on year of birth were different for the IGI and VRI versus Family Tree. Also, that standard changed when the current 110 year rule replaced the older 92 year rule.

This changing privacy rule meant that a large number of IGI and VRI birth records from the extraction program, which never contained death dates, for individual born primarily between about 1900 and 1920 had their Family Tree records restricted. These records are not visible to users of Family Tree. They are not and never have been in any Family Tree user's private space. They are in a space of their own. They are still visible to Support personnel.

However, since the parents of these children are still linked to these hidden children, the parents do still appear because if someone has a child born between 1900 and 1920, that person is clearly over 110 years old. But they appear in a rather unique form. They appear with the father having only his name and absolutely no other vital information or marriage information. Likewise the mother appears with just her name and nothing else. Because the possible duplicates routine does look at not just the information on a person, but also on other family members, sometime the possible duplicates routine will pick up the children's birth place and year and make a reasonable guess regarding duplicates for a couple.

But is it impossible to be completely sure about whether these name-only couples are the same or not without getting the information on the children revealed. This can only be done by adding a death date to the children or by seeing that the child is over 110 years old and can safely be marked as desceased. Only Support can make this change because no one else can see these records in Family Tree.

That is why you have to add these death date. I can not. When I look at any of these three children, I only see this:

I know he really exists because I can see his parents like this:

    Screen Shot 2021-09-13 at 12.36.16 PM.png

DianaHawks confirmed in her answer to this question that the children do exist and that she can see them.

This is a required exception to the standard policy that FamilySearch does not add information for guests but only teaches them how to do it themselves because it is completely impossible for them to do it themselves. This is very important to have done so that their parents never get incorrectly merged, pulling these hidden children into incorrect families.

Thank you again for your reply and for your patience in reading thorough this overly thorough reply. Please add these death dates as requested to these children and make any other adjustments to the records that might be needed to remove the restricted status so these children can be removed from limbo. After that is done, I will take care of all the required merges.
