There are some abbreviations in this telephone directory that I do not understand.

    "bds" probably means "boards at" or "boards with." For example, "bds John E Gregory" probably means "rents a room at John E Gregory's house." You would index John E Gregory as well (once).

    "s" might mean "south" (referring to part of a street or part of town).

    "w" might mean "west" (referring to part of a street or part of town)

    Same for "e" and "n."

    "h" might mean "home"
