Sporadic Indexer
I have recently been doing some indexing - but have indexed for a while.
There used to be an introductory video that explained how the Indexing/Reviewing process occurred.
From my limited indexing so far it appears that this process MAY have changed.
Is there a current introductory video that explains:
- how many indexing 'batch passes' are done? Does 1 indexer do 1 index of the batch and that's it - it goes directly to Reviewer?
- how many reviewer passes, etc?

but they don't address the indexing process as detailed as the video I recall from years ago - as my question concerns.

If the reviewer disagrees more than 20% with the indexer's work, it goes on for a 2nd review. That reviewer does not know the batch was already reviewed once.

As to your question regarding the process of indexing and reviewing of batches, the present process is that there is 1 indexer and normally 1 reviewer. The person who is reviewing a batch will carefully look at what the indexer has done. If they find errors they correct them. If there are more than 20% of a batch that the reviewer has corrected, then when it is submitted it will go to a 2nd review before being sent for publication.
There is an option when reviewing that you may return a batch for re-indexing. This however, is only used as a last resort as it takes that batch and puts it at the bottom of the queue. It is greatly appreciated if a reviewer can take the time to make the corrections as this speeds up the publication process. This process also shows FamilySearch who the original indexer was, that is making a lot of errors. They can then reach out to them for some additional training.
If there is any batch that you as an indexer or reviewer do not feel comfortable with please do not hesitate to return the batch for someone else to continue with. Any entries you have made will be kept.
In your original question you asked about video instructions. There is a guided tour and other aids that can be found by:
- Clicking on Indexing
- Selecting Overview
- Click on the blue button that says "Try it out!"

In response to your question, yes the batch image does stay in the film order that is in the Project.

Question: If a Reviewer submits a Reindex Batch option then and it goes to the bottom of the queue - the system will still keep it in the correct Project image order - right? I have seen Projects in Search Records where the Project image order does seem to get mixed up and I don't know what would cause that - but I would hope it's not the fault of the Indexing process.

Fortunately, the order in which a collection is photographed is not altered during the indexing process.

One indexer and one reviewer, unless more than 20% is changed and it goes on to another review.

@Dellory Matthews Thank you. 20% of what? If the indexer gets the number of records wrong is it 20% of their entries or 20% of the reviewers adjusted entries?
When a reviewer returns batch for reindexing and saves the entries - does it just start the 1 indexer 1 reviewer process over but has all the data entry from the first indexer included? I am just trying to understand the process again. If this is the case and the original indexer was off on entries for the record lines - the indexer will need to very carefully review the batch and add the missing records in the appropriate location. I am just trying to understand why the reviewer wouldn't just index missing information...

@SMacR Thanks for the additional information! It's good to know there is actually more going on 'behind the curtain' to make sure the best index possible gets submitted for publication - I just don't know the whole process but I guess the Wizard of Oz will take care of it.
