Feature request: specify gender in "Ordinances Ready" page

Hi,

I don't know how the Ordinances Ready algorithm works. As in, I don't know if it looks at my profile, sees that I am male, and therefore always chooses male ordinances to be displayed, but I would like the ability to specify the gender to be looked for in case I need to print names for my wife or female children.

Thanks!

    FYI

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearcH" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

[ And, I happen to be a Member of the Church ... ]

    You are not alone ...

That is a FEATURE that MANY (Member) Users/Patrons have yearned for and requested.

We can ALREADY, "Print" the "Temple" Cards, for members of the opposite "Gender", to ourselves.

We can do that ourselves, in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch", in the "Ordinances" 'Tab', of our Ancestors.

We can (both, "Reserve"; and,) "Print", the "Temple" Cards for whichever "Gender" we desire, Male; or, Female; as, there is NO restriction.

    But ...

    That Said ...

What you request is SOMETHING that "OrdinancesReady" was SPECIFICALLY designed NOT to be able to do.

    Please let me explain ...

Please be aware that the "OrdinancesReady" feature/function/facility is ONLY, really, for a quick; and, easy, process of, FINDING; and, PRINTING, the "Temple" Cards, when one is going to visit the "Temple", that day or the next, when one DOES NOT have ANY "Temple" Cards, 'on-hand', available.

The "OrdinancesReady" feature/function/facility is certainly NO substitute, for doing one's due diligence, well IN ADVANCE of visiting the "Temple" of, FINDING; and, PRINTING, the "Temple" Cards, for one's Ancestors, to have 'on-hand', available; regardless, of the "Gender".

Hence, the reason, that we ONLY get "Temple" Work, for people, of the SAME "Gender", as ourselves, is a DESIGN Feature of "OrdinancesReady".

Although, I totally understand your request.

I would humbly suggest that, your request, may not be considered as appropriate, in view of the intended Design.

Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch':

How do I find family names for the temple with Ordinances Ready?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-find-family-names-for-the-temple-with-ordinances-ready

    Where it states, among other things;

    Quote

    ------------------

Ordinances Ready is designed to provide family name cards for the person signed in to the website or the Family Tree app. For example, if you are female, it only searches for ancestors who are likewise female so that you can perform their ordinances.

    ------------------

    And ...

Where does Ordinances Ready get names?

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/where-does-ordinances-ready-get-names

    Where it states, among other things;

    Quote

    ------------------

Ordinances Ready finds names for you that are your same sex (that is, male names for male users and female names for female users).

    ------------------

    But ...

    That Said ...

Who is to say things will not change in the future ...

I know that this does not help; but, I hope this gives you some perspective.

    Brett

Sure, Brett, thanks for taking the time for such a detailed response. I completely agree with everything you said. My issue was that my wife was having a hard time getting into her account to find a name, and I didn't have any female ancestors for the right ordinance, so I had the bright idea that maybe "Ordinances Ready" could do that for me (for the record, I had previously found a name for myself without using ordinances ready so I wasn't just being lazy!). But I can see how the downsides of such a functionality could very well outweigh the positives. Thanks again.

You may wish to try looking in the descendancy view under "Tree" for ordinances your wife could do. It will not be as quick as Ordinances Ready, but may be useful.

The article link below may help.

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/what-does-the-descendancy-view-do-in-family-tree

Or looking on your fan chart, under "Tree", using the ordinances tab.

You might consider accessing your wife’s account as helper, see https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-use-the-help-others-link-in-family-tree

For easier access you can add her to your helper resources list. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-add-or-delete-a-person-from-my-list-in-planner

These are all great comments, thanks so much! I had forgotten about descendancy and help resources.
