Hello, I have ancesters with the surname Brun in Lövestad, Malmöhus, Sweden, in addition to their patronymic surname. This name does not sound like the military names I am familiar with-- like Spjut, Forsberg, Lindgren, etc.

Is "Brun" a military name?

Searching for Brun as a surname in the Central Soldier Data Base (Centrala Soldatregistret) gives lots of results, so I presume it is a soldier name. However, I didn't see any results for Brun in Lövestad. See here: https://soldat.elektronikhuset.it/soldatregister/search.sv.aspx

I did a search in this database of soldiers with släktnamn "Brun." Most in the list had the name Brun before an additional military name was added. For example see:

Eric Hult, Per Gryting, and Johan Eklund

Because of this, it seems that Brun is not a military name.

Besides that the name Brun (brown) isn´t very military-ish -- "Brown" is not about strength, weapons, or landforms.

    Where would "Brun" come from?

I have found a website that might be helpful. Brun was used to describe something about the person (hair, skin, etc.). Check out this website for more information. I hope that helps.
