It would be great to get a second pair of eyes on this to help check for mistakes. I could not tell if the word after Eva was a maiden name or something else. Many thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the Jugum/Zugum (it will be a surname): is the record available online? With records available online always(!) the link should be given: it may be essential to be able to view a larger number of entries to "learn" a given handwriting.

Joannes Tobias was the legitimate son of Mathaeus Nenninger and Eva Jugum/Zugum(?). Witness was Tobias Dumberger, assisted by Catharina Knoll.

The entry below the one in question also has a Maria Eva Zugum - it's definitely not a "J" like in Joannes.

I agree with the difference Z[ugum] and J[oes] - but still would like to see a larger section, better a link (if available online).

For some reason my transcription got lost - so here it is again:

Baptizatus e[st] Jo[ann]es Tobias filius legitimus Mathae[i] Nenninger et Eva Zugum, levante Tobia[s] Dumberger cui assistebat Catharina Knollin.

    Tobias Nenninger 1758 half page.png

Thank you for looking at it! Attached is half the page from Rottenburg Archives. This is not available online or I would have included the link. I only have a whole page in pdf which I cannot upload, and other formats I tried were blurry.

Thank you for the image - although only half a page, it includes another interesting entry with

    Zwing.jpg

which I read as Zwing: a completely different Z compared with Zugum ... which obviously was a dominant family in Schluchtern ... in all 4 entries the mother is a Zugum ... or is that some sort of family oriented (instead of chronological) register?

    On another aspect: attachments.

pdf is not allowed here, I assume due to safety considerations.

You have converted the image to png. png is a loss-free format, to be recommended when an image is going to be edited, re-saved, edited, re.saved, ...: you don't loose image quality, but get huge files. Your half page is 5.4 MB.

I have downloaded it, converted to jpg (keeping resolution, minimal compression) ... the resulting file was only 655 kB ... and I assume the full page as jpg would not have exceeded the file size limits of this platform. Here's a comparison (cut-outs from both versions):

    Vergleich-jpg-png.jpg

can you tell the difference - which is the better? I would say at least both are sufficient quality for a transcription.

BTW: if an image (e.g. a scan) is stored as pdf, it actually is jpg with just a different ending 🤔.

Thank you for the help. I think actually the word after Eva is jugum which according to this Family Search Latin word list is short for conjugum and means married couple. 8/9 of the entries on this page of baptisms have this word after the couple's names. On this word list, levantes is listed as meaning godparents. https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Latin_Genealogical_Word_List

28 7bris  Baptizetus Joes Tobias filius legitmus Mathai Nenninger et Eva jugum, levante Tobias Dumberger , cui apostalet Catherine Knobben hu.
