Abbreviations in Austrian Catholic church registers?

I frequently find abbreviations in the Austria Catholic Church registers that I cannot figure out. I am wondering if someone could help me? A frequent one is V.U.M.B. I have attached an example in the bride's entry For the marriage of Anton Panholzer.

Previously answered in "old" community. V.U.M.B. = Viertel unter dem Manhartsberg, which is located in Niederösterreich.

    Hello @CarrieATaylor,

I am a non-Church volunteer and have nothing to do with the installation of the new community platform. That said, I checked the membership roster of the Austro-Hungarian Empire group (which anyone can check) in the new community platform and you are still listed as a member of the group. So you don't have to sign up for this group again.

    Best regards,Robert Seal_1

V.U.M.B. is an Austrian geographic abbreviation which stands for: Viertel unter dem Manhartsberg. This translates as: quarter under the Manhartsberg or area below the Manhartsberg. This area is located in Lower Austria.

Here is a link about this area from Wikipedia:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weinviertel

See the first sentence. This area is also known as the "Weinviertel".

Here is a link about Manhartsberg, which is a mountain ridge in Lower Austria, from Wikipedia:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhartsberg

The bride in the record comes from Bösendürnbach in the Parish of Mühlendorf.

Here is a link about Bösendürnbach from the German Wikipedia:

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bösendürnbach

Use your browser's translate function to translate to English.

Given the context in which you find the abbreviation V.U.M.B., does this explanation make sense?

Here is another link which may prove helpful:

    https://oefr.at/2018/12/11/immer-diese-viertel/

See under the section "Niederösterreich" for the abbreviation "VUMB".

Surprisingly, there's also an abbreviation for "VOMB".

Again, use your browser's translate function to translate to English.
