Unique Community Celebrations....
With Pioneer Day being such an important holiday for members of the Church, I began to think of local community celebrations which may no longer be observed. For example, in the 1940s through the 1960s at least, our small Oregon community celebrated May Day. The entire town was involved. There was a parade - floats, old cars, riding club - business floats - school marching band - children's 'floats' - floats by local clubs or rural communities - Boy Scout and Camp Fire Girls marched - 4-H clubs had floats - There was a queen and her princesses. There was a school program followed by a community picnic hosted by the public school. Interviews with people who experienced these very important local celebrations could be preserved on familysearch.org - Memories. Photos should also be preserved. In our community, the 4th of July was not celebrated as a community but May Day was very, very important. (And btw, there was no Russian population in our community so it had nothing to do with May Day in the Soviet Union)

You have brought up some interesting ideas. I would love to see people adding information like this to FamilySearch Memories. We have such a great way to share information with so many people.
I wonder if there are photos of this parade that could be added? But then when we all liken this story unto our own families, what stories and photos should we be adding?
I love how sharing photos with family members invites others to add their bits and pieces to the story. How can we get more people to share? What is it that triggers your interest in adding more details? I would love to know what others think! How do you increase the involvement in your family sharing?
