Where is "Island of Anuglen, off the west coast of Norway"?

Then only residence starting with "angu" in the entire 1900 Norwegian census is Angulen in Tysnes community. So that must be the place. Looking at surrounding farms in the census district and comparing these to the map of Norway, shows that the current name for the place is the island of Ånuglo which is a small island just off the coast of the island of Tysnes. This is also the name of a farm on the island.

Spelling tends to change through the years so if you look through time, you will probably find Anuglen spelled as Anuglen, Aanuglen, and Ånuglen. The switch from the Bokmål ending of -en for place name to the Nynorsk ending of -o is pretty common in western Norway.

 

You were having trouble finding it in the standards database because it is listed there just with the single spelling of Ånuglo. Also, all the islands I have seen in the database are just listed under the county they are found in, not the municipality, so it is there as Ånuglo, Hordaland, Norway.

Any idea as to what parish that would be?

For most of history, the parish names were used for municipality names in Norway and for many areas the boundaries have been quite stable. So if you have a place that is solidly within a municipality's boundary, you can usually start out by assuming it is in the parish of the same name. One thing to watch out for, however, is that there are areas where at one point in history there were major boundary changes that moved parish boundaries from the tops of mountain ranges to the middle of fjords.

 

Looking that the map I put the URL in for above, you will see that Ånuglen is in Tysnes municipality so in recent history, Ånuglen has been in Tysnes parish. As I recall, the boundaries for Tysnes parish have been very stable and Ånuglen is close enough to the main island of Tysnes I'm sure it has alway been in the same parish.

Putting in Hordaland and Tysnes here, you will see that the island is in Onarheim sub-parish:

 

 

 

 

Assuming you are looking for her birth record, it should be in this parish record:

If she isn't there, then either her birth date is wrong in the obituary or her family might have taken a boat across the fjord and had her christened in the neighboring parish of Kvinnherad.
