Landesfrauenklinik film access
Hello. I am requesting assistance on viewing ability for a specific film listed in the Family Search catalog. I unfortunatley cannot be in Salt Lake City at the main library to view it. It has a "key" icon on the entry. I also cannot seem to locate a local affiliate Family Search library to assist me in any way. I have contacted 2 separate libraries via phone, email and have not received any contact. Would a public library that is listed as an affiliate center have the ability to view it?
I posted a while back that my great grandmother was illigimate and her mother was also. Difficult I know. I did find an entry in Linz, Austria and think I have narrowed it down to the Landesfrauenklinik for unwed mothers. These records in this film may help me in researching the Sladek line further.
Franziska Sladek (great grandmother) b: 07 Mar 1852. Her mother Maria Sladek.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you accessed FamilySearch Family Tree for Františka Sládková GHFC-5NC. There is a christening record in the "Memories". Maria Sladek's parents are shown as Jana Sladek and Anny Anna Nádraská-Křížková. The line continues and goes back to the 2nd great-grandparents of Frantiska. You can go back farther by accessing the free Czech records. I would be willing to help you learn how to do this.

On FamilySearch you will discover Jonny Stipek added all the original sources. However, the link to the records is missing. To contact him you would click on his name found as the submitter. Then you can chat with him. See if you can get the original links to the church records. It states he is not related to the family.

I looked in the record at the different birthdate of 6 Mar 1850 and did not find her in any record. Jonny Stipek apparently indexed the entire parish. Here is the link he posted https://www.portafontium.eu/register/soap-pn/mysliv-31. He put the church record under memories on the person page. Please let me know what you think.

My great mother's name was Franziska Sladek. Her mother's name was Maria Sladch (as written). I will attach her birth entry. As far as I know she was only married to my great grandfather (his second marriage). I have a birth entry for Franziska's son, Johannes Sladek (b:1875), who was also illigimate. My great grandfather was already in the USA since 1873 so he's not the father. I know that Franziska's mother name is correct since I have the marriage certificate from St. Paul, MN that states her mother was Maria Sladek, illigimate.
I am registered at GenTeam and it's a wonderful resource. As of this post I haven't checked that Family Search tree very closely but I'm confused. How will I know that Maria's mom is Anna Nádraská-Křížková? The only entry I have that says her name is the St. Paul marriage and Franziska's birth entry. No birth date or place for her or anything else which is why I was looking for access to the Landesfrauenklinik viewing. I was hoping that perhaps her "admission" papers (or whatever) would mention more information on either woman. Franziska has listed her foster father on Johannes' birth entry. So Maria didn't keep/raise Franziska as she listed herself as a foundling. I'll attach Johannes' birth also.
Thank you for your assistance.

Thanks for getting back to me. Do you have a database somewhere that I can view? How did you determine the 7 Mar 1852 date as right ? May I see the St. Paul marriage certificate, please. I am under the weather still and want to help you. I would like to see the whole picture.

I'm sorry that you're under the weather. Sometimes Spring illness are worse than the winter ones. Hope you feel better soon.
The Matricula entry says it's 07 Mar 1852. Her death certificate from Washington State and her headstone
also says 07 Mar 1852 or gives that year, month and day format. That's her birth date. I'll attach all. The marriage certificate isn't in a database. I researched the St. Paul area for local marriages and then sent to the St. Paul archdiocese for verification. Her birthdate isn't on that certificate but I'll attach that also.
Thanks for hanging in there and trying to help me on this difficult research.

On a p.s. on that response post her death certificate says her father was John. I believe that is in error or would have to have further proof that it is indeed the correct answer. Her son was Johannes or John if you're Americanized. We both know that not all death certificates are correct. The Frank Chromey is her son from my great grandfather. How would he not know his mother's maiden name when he has an Uncle John that lived with them for many years and was still in the St. Paul, Minnesota area using the Sladek name. Sorry, I don't buy it. I'm the cynical type.

Couple more questions, please. Do you have an obituary, a church death record, and a passenger list for Frances? Could I have the place and link to the birth of her son Johannes, please? Why does Maria have a different surname on this record? Also, did she have any other children? Did Johannes file a naturalization record? Do you know who lived in house 24? Is there anywhere I can view family group sheets with sources?
The records from the orphanage do not provide any parent info.

Betseylee:
Johannes birth link is in the original first post. https://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/7754/8/1038/750/91/0 I do have a passenger list that has her and Johannes listed on the ship Neckar from Bremen to New York once they arrive in New York. I'll attach a picture. They are the last 2 entries on the bottom.
No church death entry. I haven't reseached for it. To answer the question on who lives in House 24, it's her foster father Mathias Oppolder who lives in Grosse-Urrestschlag, Bohemia. It's now called Svetlik.
Maria and Frances has several spellings of her last name, Sladek, Sladick, Sladch, or even Schladick and I'm sure several more I can't even imagine. You can see how they messed up Chromy...Grame. Not real close.
I don't know if Maria had any other children. What I shared with you is total for Maria. No mention on birth, marriage or death. Frances' son, Johannes does have a naturalization paper but we're snowbirding in Florida right now. The only image I have will be attached. The original paper might be waiting to be scanned. I'm behind.
I'm disappointed on the orphanage records. Brickwall I guess.
Any other questions, let me know.

Never say brickwall. Don't give up. Have you checked to see if there are any mortuary records or sexton's records at the cemetery? The church records for every US church she attended should be checked.
Do I have a link for the birth/christening of Frances? I want to look at the surrounding records.
Let's see if I have this right.
Frances (Francisca) Sladek was born 7 Mar 1852 in house 372 in Linz, Austria. the capital of Upper Austria and third-largest city in Austria. Linz is 19 miles from the border of Czechia. She was an illegitimate child of Maria Sladek. Maria gave her up to an orphanage, so she was a foundling. She was taken in by Mathias Oppolder, her foster father, who lived in house 24, Grosse-Urrestschlag, Bohemia, now called Svetlik.

Did you know there are census records for Linz? Here is the list of records: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/201389?availability=Family%20History%20Library. and https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/745597?availability=Family%20History%20Library Here is a link for house 372: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-YSVF-BHG?i=187&cat=201389. but I do not find her in this record. There could be another house 372. Can you view the records? We have a house number which will help. It even has indexes for each section.

I found the orphanage record for Frances in another film in Linz. I cannot send you an image. Why don't you send a personal message here and provide me with your email address?

Here is the link for the passenger list for Franziska and Johann: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939V-R7SG-3P?view=index&action=view&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQVSK-CL4X
I've looked at the state and Federal census' for Franziska and there is no entry that she was ever naturalized. Her husband, Andreas, was naturalized on 05 Nov 1897 in Stearns County, Minnesota.

Thanks for the link. Do you have Andreas naturalization? it might mention Frances birth date and place of birth. I would also try to get Johannes' naturalization and social security application.

So on the next page of the passenger list is a group of people from Bohemia. People usually did not travel alone, especially a woman and child. You could research on the other Bohemian passengers and see where they came from. Were any of them living in her neighborhood in the US or resided in the same city?
Have you done your DNA? If so with what companies?

BTW in Francisca's christening her mother's last name is spelled Sladek, not Sladck.

I found a database by rpeck and it has a picture of Frances and a Father and Mother. I do not know if it is the right one. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/79423484/person/382258395846/facts

I took another look at that birth/christening entry and it could be Sladck or Sladek...either way, I'll concede to you. I'm not the handwriting specialist.
Andreas' naturalization papers do not mention his or her birth place. The database from rpech70 has the correct picture of Franziska. However, I have looked over that tree and it doesn't even mention Franziska's son Johann. It also states that tree has Chicago roots. The information on Franciska is correct on her only. If you look at the Find a Grave information it says that Anna Matejovsky Sladek is buried with her daughter, Frances Civis, in that same block. This Anna only had 1 daughter named Frances so I think rpech70 attached to the wrong tree. Matejovsky is the maiden name so I don't know where rpech70 got Maderjik from.
I did have my DNA done through Ancestry. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I was hoping to narrow down my ancestry location but it didn't do that.
So touching on that Johann Sladek and Anna link you sent me, it's related to the rpech70 tree discussed above. I'll file for a possible link somewhere down the line. That Johann would've been born around 1811. I found this tree's passenger list and it says that this Johann is an "oekonom"? An economist? My tree is full of farmers and carpenters during this time frame.
I would have to send away for Johann/John Sladek's original Social Security application. It will take a couple of weeks. What am I looking for in that application? Here's a screenshot. It doesn't have a father or mother's name. Listed as blank on that post.
I will say you're the only person who has stuck around this long with me. This is a tough one I know but I'll keep at it.
Hope you're feeling better and hope to hear from you soon.
