Licenciement to Invalids....Termination Pay...No Military Pension?
In 1815 Franz Brescher of the 5th Battalion, 60th Regiment of Foot is listed in Chelsea Records as receiving Licenciement to Invalids: Kings German Legion. Amt. 23 16 3. Service time 14+ years.
Is this Severance Pay in lieu of a pension? Franz transferred to the newly formed 60/5 in the early 1800's from Lowenstein's Force of Germans that had been serving England in the West Indies. Franz formally appears in 60/5 payroll records in 1803.
I understand that when England contracted with German pricipalities for complete military units the soldiers were under contract for 7 year terms. (contrary to lifetime for British soldiers)
When the 5th Battalion was formed in 1798 I read that these Germans were to be treated in every respect as the other Battalions in the Regiment.... Seems as though this did not extend to pensions.

I would think they would receive a pension, but again with only a short time in duty and not British, it is hard to say.
